Kaiserschmarrn is a traditional Austrian dessert made of fluffy, caramelized pancakes shredded into bite-sized pieces.

Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • powdered sugar for serving
  • raisins (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, flour, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.
  2. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
  3. Pour the batter into the skillet and cook until the bottom is golden brown.
  4. Use a spatula to cut the pancake into quarters and flip them to cook the other side.
  5. Once browned on both sides, use a fork to shred the pancake into bite-sized pieces.
  6. Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar, and with raisins if desired.

Notes

  • Add chopped apples or fruits for extra flavor.
  • Can be served with fruit compote or syrup.
