Enjoy a slice of delicious deep dish pizza with a buttery crust, layered with cheese, meats, and your favorite toppings.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon cornmeal

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough by mixing yeast, warm water, sugar, and allowing it to foam.
  2. Mix flour and salt, then combine with the yeast mixture and knead until smooth.
  3. Let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  4. Cook the sausage, onions, and garlic in olive oil until browned.
  5. Add crushed tomatoes, oregano, and basil; simmer for 20 minutes.
  6. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  7. Roll out the dough and fit it into a greased deep dish pan, allowing the edges to hang over.
  8. Layer mozzarella cheese on the bottom, add the sausage mixture, and top with more cheese.
  9. Fold the edges of the dough over the toppings.
  10. Bake for 30-40 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Let it cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For a spicier pizza, add red pepper flakes to the sausage mixture.
  • Leftover pizza can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
